Are you sure it's not just reflecting the color of the holder?

That's not a patina, that's an artificially recoated surface. To answer your question directly, 1943 pennies like this are not normal and are extremely common. Some refer to them as reprocessed steel cents

I too think this is a reprocessed coin.

Reprocessed . That 43 steel cent does not look blue as the sky unless your referring to well after the sun is down .

Even if it is reprocessed, the time-warping implications of a 1943 LMC should make that a blockbuster at auction.

Agree with others, likely a replated coin as those holders are notorious for cleaned and otherwise problem coins.

Thank you llewellin that's useful info that I can research. Ive never heard of reprocessed coins! Very new to this hobby and still refuse to be discouraged by smart Alec remarks like T-BOP's response (and others I've received). If you can't say something nice don't say nothin' at all.
Rest in Peace

Ok, how's this, a1943 is NOT an LMC! ( Lincoln Memorial cent) it is an LWC! ( Lincoln Wheat cent),
And, I agree with T-BOP

T-BOP's opinion was not a smart Alec remark. Don't be so sensitive!

This is silliness. We are talking about a reprocessed cent worth virtually nothing.

First of all, I want to thank some of you for the kind responses and useful links to help me learn and determine that this LWC Lincoln Wheat cent or STEEL WARTIME PENNY as it is labelled is most likely reprocessed. I've never heard this term before. Is the steel penny the only coin this occurs on? I broke the case to get the penny out for better photos but was unsuccessful at showing the beautiful blue color. After reading the link, I took photos of the outer rim next to "normal steel pennies". The outer rim is shiny and in the photo it is noticeable that the finish is chipping off the outer rim indicating it is indeed reprocessed.

Secondly, I'm glad the "pillars" are having a good laugh at my expense. Tootallious, of course you agree with T-BOP, birds of a feather flock together. Your comment was just as rude. I'm sure you've never made a mistake in your life, heaven forbid a simple typo. USSID18 you must feel like a very special human to think you can tell a total stranger how to feel about a situation. And Coinfrog, Ill tell you what is silly...that you only place value on an object if it is of monetary value. I have plenty of money. This coin is beautiful and was an invaluable teaching tool for my seven year old Grandson until you guys ruined it. He read all of your comments. I'm trying to teach him not to be like you, and to see beauty in things and people. Also FYI it was a little difficult explaining your meme about beating a dead horse bc I breed thoroughbreds and my grandson has horses of his own. Its heartbreaking to have one die. I'm not being overly sensitive, I feel you guys are being totally insensitive. If I'm not kicked out of the forum for expressing my feelings maybe you guys can do me a favor and just scroll right on by anything I post bc you know its going to be stupid. That is if I post anything again.
