What's going on with the reverse on this 1887? It looks like a polished reverse but there doesn't appear to be a polished reverse in the VAM files. It received a straight grade. Photography? Sorry, these are the best pics available. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

It may be the artifact of a dip or even acetone wash that wasn't rinsed properly. And yeah, no buffed reverse for 1887-P.

Looks pretty normal to me. Very nice for the grade.

The disturbed field surrounding 'UNITED S' looks like a water stain in the picture, but I have to admit that I really don't have much of a clue as to what might have caused it.

Well, it was an intriguing coin. Not so much any more. Thanks all.

I just checked it on the NGC site. Boy, their image of the reverse is not very flattering....
