I am not a coin collector, but I have been asked to dispose of a set of Whitman Redbooks 1947 - 2008. My question is should I sell the books as a set or as the series. I also have some convention books, including the 1987 which I understand is rare. Where would be the best place, besides e-bay to sell these books.

As you might know already, all of the value is in a small part of the collection- the 40s and early 50s editions and the ANA editions. It would probably be in your best interest to sell these individually to get top dollar. Another alternative would be to consign the collection and let someone else try to get the most money for you. Obviously, the condition of the books makes a big difference in value. Look in the rear appendices of one of the newer edition Redbooks- it has a valuation guide for Redbooks as a collectible so that will give you a general idea of the rarer ones.
