I picked up a few of the 40mm Airtite coin holders that come with a black foam rubber ring. With all the talk about what is safe/not safe for our coins, I started to wonder about these black rings in the airtite holders.. will the rings damage our coins over time?

I have never heard of them not being safe and I even have some coins that have been in them for many years without any problems that my grandfather gave me. I really think these are about the safest thing you can put your coins in

If it was discovered to the contrary.....these wouldn't be very big sellers for the hobby !

Just hope that you never need to take it back out because if you have an exact fit, it will be next to impossible to get out. I use air-tites for certain coins and just went to a Dansco folder for by US Large Cents only to find out that two of them are going to need a little more help getting out. I think the real factor is that the foam was the wrong size and is pushing out too much and making it tough to pry the halves apart. If you have the money and this is a set you want to keep, then air-tites is the best way to go.

Although air tights are really air tight, they do take up space. This means if you want to display your coins in an album, they will not fit in the album made for the denomination you have. However, even then there is an alternative. If each coin is placed in ait tights and you want to put them in albums, what some I know have done is this. Order the next size of coin album but full of blank pages. This means for the Cent coins you use the Nickel pages. Same for Dimes in a Penny (cent) album. Regardless, I just put all my coins in albums and then place them in zip lock bags. Prior to zip lock, just a plastic bag. So far after well over 60 years, no problems.

They actually back folder pages for air-tites and the size that you need. A couple of years ago I picked some up for my Silver Eagles in a coin shop when I was on vacation and they are awesome, when I get some time I will need to post some pictures. If anyone knows where to get them, I would love to get some more.
