One year type.
36.454 million struck for circulation.
That is a huge number for an Australian population of only about 20 million at the time.

All subsequent years of the Australian 50 Cents were struck in copper nickel, and so all of the .800 fine silver 50 Cents were hoarded by the Australian population. All subsequent years were same size, but are dodecagonal in shape.
The round 1966 .800 fine silver 50 Cents are most commonly found in AU58 grade.

The equivalent of America's 1964 .900 fine Kennedy half.

Australia had 11.6 million population in 1966

Of the 36M minted only 14 million were released to circulation.

They contain 10.62g of Silver (about 1/3 oz)
USD5.60 on today's market 2019.Feb.15

moose59 a very nice find.

Is it the type with the 2 bars behind the emu's neck ? It appears to be reasonably likely from your scan.

The 1966, 1979, 1980, and possibly a very few of the 1981 and 1993 50c, could have the " double bars " behind the emu's neck. The 1979 50c with the " double bars " behind the emu's neck has always been a little difficult to find in anything better than EF/EF+ - aUNC.

36M minted but don't forget that many were returned to mint and melted making actual mintage figure far lower
