I got this 2007 D George Washington dollar in some change some time ago and gave it a look. There is a raised element on the rim that looks like the letter U. It is not incused and am wondering if this could have happened during the ejection process? I have seen hundreds of incused marks on the rims of coins but nothing raised like this. Insight please.

I'm beginning to think it was there BEFORE the edging process started. The flatness points to that.

Caused by the impact against the U from TRUST on the edge of another dollar coin. The letters are incused on the edge and the impact creates a weak raised letter on the edge of this coin.

These normal devices on the edges of the business strike coins is added after the strike. On the proof coins it happens during the strike. So I'm also thinking it is a contact mark from another coin. It might be an after addition of the edge letters. With the devices incuse on the coins, an edge of another coin could alter the edge lettering without affecting the 'G' as it is incuse also. IE, the Machine Doubling on the devices on the outside rim of the ATB Quarters and the EPU on cents, can have a bag mark that shows above the devices, that doesn't alter the device. Same on this coin. The incuse devices contact, didn't affect the incuse devices on the edge.
