I picked this up a few months ago, can't seem to find many coins to compare to in terms of grade or value. I'd like to guess VF35, but I would like other opinions.

Thank you for those comparisons tdziemia, it appears the quality of the strike seems to vary a lot for this type which makes it difficult for me to grade. After the replies on this thread, I'm leaning towards VF30.
I purchased the coin for $400; though I couldn't quite grasp if I paid a proper price considering the lack of auction results.

I don;t know this coin or the market for it, but based on the small number of sales I see, it looks like a fair price.

I know nothing about the typical strike or original extent of detail on this coin, but using US standards I lean more toward VF-20 than 30.

Here is a VF30 of a similar type with a very weak strike. I'll be shipping the coin to NGC on Monday, I'll report back whatever it gets once grades are posted, thanks everyone.

The 1820 of the same type graded VF-25 I linked to earlier is also illustrative. There is almost no detail on face or headdress, and none at all on the hair on that example. Will be interesting to see how yours grades, and regardless, I think your coin has great eye appeal for they type.

This one is struck better than most. The wear on the edges seems more though than on those other two TPG examples. I can see this one at VF-30, a little higher than my first "guess". It's a great coin.

Very nice piece. If the surfaces are as honest as they seem from the pics, it should do a 30 at NGC... maybe even get an eye appeal bump to a 35. Not enough there for a 40 even with constantly creeping gradeflation and benefit of the doubt for a nice "look".
It actually is a pretty decent strike, so probably an easier coin to judge actual wear on than most.
Smart to trust your gut and not let it pass - VERY good buy at $400...
