Very unusual medal, it's made of pressed wood. After a heck of a lot of research I discovered that it's a facsimile of the reverse face of the medal in the title.
Great find I have heard and read that it was a common practice to do tests on wet wood for chyecking and then they went into the fire. So a lot of them didn't survive.
I also forgot to add that in addition to the wood I have even seen less of the test samples done on wet leather it does an exact impression to high detail.
