Could someone please explain to me why this happens, and are they worth keeping? The top two pics are of a 1974 Lincoln... The 1954-d measures 19.01mm Thanks, Jay
Remnants of an Encased Cent - a lucky penny piece. The coin was struck into the center of a holed aluminum planchet with business information on one side and a lucky penny inscription on the other side by a private company.
They are from Encased Cents. There's no mystery involved. The one you showed was also appears to have been plated at one point which is another indication that it was part of some sort of souvenir piece that was encasing the cent.
