I have acetone washed it and taken a q-tip over the letter to make sure it was part of the coin. It is definitely Part of the engraving. Anyone have any idea about this and if it is something to pursue for error?

Thanks

@JJ, yes I see what you are talking about, but not sure that I agree that it was on the die when this coin was made at the mint. From your pics, it doesn't look raised above the surface of the coin--how does it look in hand?

I believe it could be argued that the C is a case of Pareidolia. Your mind kind of arranges things it sees into something that isn't really what it appears to be.

From the naked eye with no magnification it is the only thing visible and it doesn't seem to be raised.

Of if not raised (or incuse) then I would argue it is not from the die but rather surface staining or toning (although clearly strong enough to avoid being rubbed away by your prior efforts).

It does not sit higher than the date but 100% I made sure I wasnt catching the 2 on the date or the portrait when my fingernail was catching.

I can see what you are referring to on the coin
but what it caused it, I'm not sure.
To be an error, it would have had to happen during
the striking of the coin. And for this to happen,
it would have to be incused on the die in which case
there would be probably thousands of them out there
and been discovered by now.
I will say it is some form of PMD.

Need an overlay but it is just about in the right place to be a clash from the first U in UNUM.
