2002 D Penny With A Letter C Below Bowtie Never Seen This Before

It is definitely Part of the engraving. Anyone have any idea about this and if it is something to pursue for error? Thanks Report this Post to the Staff

From your pics, it doesn't look raised above the surface of the coin--how does it look in hand? Your mind kind of arranges things it sees into something that isn't really what it appears to be. To be an error, it would have had to happen during the striking of the coin. And for this to happen, it would have to be incused on the die in which case there would be probably thousands of them out there and been discovered by now. I will say it is some form of PMD.
