Hello guys.. I think that they are from very different era's, but correct me if I was wrong. found them at the same spot. the second silver coin reads Arabic but I can only understand 4 words.. On a (common, Epic, rare, legendary) scale what do you say for each guys ? Coin #1 Coin #2 Thanks Edited by HermesTris 02/17/2019 7:34 pm

The second coin is a Mamluk dirham (or fraction) of al-Mansur Nur al-Din 'Ali I, 1257-1259. The first photo is the reverse and names the last 'Abbasid caliph al-Musta'sim who was killed by the Mongol Hulagu: al-imam / al-Musta'sim / billah Abu Ahmad 'Abd / Allah amir al-mu'minin. The second photo is the obverse which names 'Ali: al-malik al-Mansur / [Nu]r al-Din 'Ali / ... Mint and date missing but type of al-Qahira (Cairo), usually dated 655 or 656. Cf. Balog 19; Album 874.1. Scarce to rare. https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=68969https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=204267[edit: I see HermesTris beat me t it ]

OOo Thanks Dear Kushanshah. I was so happy when I found it. He ruled only for 2 years; so i'd say it is "rare".
what do u think ?! any idea with #1 ?! maybe ancient Greek or too far away ?

If #1 weren't gold, I'd have guessed it's a spindle whorl. I've seen some that are very similar looking to this, at least from front and back views. Not sure what the side view looks like here. But, given the gold, seems unlikely.

My first impression on #1 was a spur.

I'm with Bob L on the other object. Has it actually been assayed as gold?

This is the type I was referring to - these are from Antioch, but made of glass. Curious if the side view of the gold object above matches the side profile seen in the bottom illustration.

Nice idea Thanks Bob L ! but I think the hole is too small for a stick. a needle may fit inside only. it is as thin as the silver coin. 2 mm thin, and also 2 mm for the hole.
The site doesn't look Islamic at all, I don't know why the silver coin was there, maybe from a late era battle. but the stone graving and signs looks to me Roman culture above Greeks. I'm 99% sure it is Gold not brass

Has it been proven to be gold? If not get it tested.
If so I'm tending to think it's a scrap that has been hammered and pierced for sewing into clothing.

Quote: it is as thin as the silver coin. 2 mm thin Wow. That is thin indeed. Well, so much for the spindle whorl idea. Perhaps, as jskirwin suggests, a decorative applique for clothing?
