This is my first foray into Medieval Islamic Coins. I think I have this attributed as Abu Said 2 Dirhams 713-736AH or 1316-1335. It weight ~3.5 grams.
Please let me know what you think of it.

Yes, Abu Sa'id. An interesting and popular type. The mint name is a little difficult to read but may be Kashan. Only the digit of the date is visible but that is enough to be certain it is 721.

This is called the "mihrab" type because of the niche-like shape formed by part of the legend. Within the niche is the Kalima "There is no god but Allah; Muhammad is the apostle of Allah". Below are the names of the Rashidun, the first four "rightly-guided" caliphs of Islam: Abu Bakr, 'Umar. 'Uthman and 'Ali. The niche itself is formed from the word fasayakfikahum which with the rest of the marginal inscription reads "Allah will be sufficient for you against them; He is the Hearing, the Knowing" (Qur'an 2:137). The mihrab is a niche found in the wall of a mosque which points toward Mecca.

The other side names the ruler: "struck in the reign of the mighty sultan Abu Sa'id, may Allah preserve his kingdom; O, Allah is the Victory!". In the margin segments is the (partial) mint and date formula.

I think it is a great start to a new direction for your collection. Nice pick-up!
