I was at my local coin dealer, and if I remember correctly h was selling a G4 1864 silver 3 cent piece for about 30 -40 bucks.

But in my black book it said it goes for 200-1600 dollars. yes I no black and red books are overpriced but I dont think its tht overpriced?

wuts your opinion on this? or did I just mix up the date? tht is wut I think happened to b honest.

I don't know what a black book is but Its worth about $300 according to the RedBook. If you got the date and grade correct it's definitely worth another look. -PP

The Civil War years were the beginning of the end for the 3CS. Any true business strike is incredibly rare after 1862. It is easier to find proofs from these years, even with mintages of only a few hundred. If it really is an 1864, condition does not really matter- buy it. Unfortunately, it is probably an 1854 for that price.

My guess is that the coin is an 1854, not 1864. Anything after 1862 is incredibly rare and I would be very, very careful about finding such a coin raw or at a bargain price....generally because virtually neither exist for those coins.

Yea, apparently I asked the guy if he had any 1864's silvers
but he brought out a 1861 instead, thats what happened I'm pretty sure.
