I got this coin years ago at a flea market for my buffalo sub-set. The seller had no idea. I'm sure someone here knows. I also think the two tone is cool. Please tell me this is original and not altered!

Ok, I believe this coin is an Animal's edition of the Russian Bi-Metallic coins, and I think they are collectibles as well. As for the altering and originality, I am not sure.

I apologize. I only have my cellphone. One day I plan on getting one of those digital microscopes.

For future identification assistance:
- Cyrillic alphabet is never Poland
- Two headed eagle is only Poland in 19th century when part of country was under Russian rule.

Thanks for putting that coin out for an ID!!

You guys are the best!

Thank you for all the information

I just bought this Polish coin on ebay to add to my buffalo collection. You can see where I thought the one I had might have been Polish. These are my first world coins.

Nice add, nics!

Like the U.S., the bison is a historically important critter to the Poles. Today, the only large free-ranging herds of the European bison are in Poland and Belarus. It had been hunted to extinction about 100 years ago, but captive specimens were used to re-populate the species.

tdziemia.....sounds like a very familiar story. Roughly the same story as the American bison. I have been to a bison ranch and been fortunate enough to ride through a bison herd. The beauty and power of these animals is amazing. I am trying to put together every coin from around the world with a bison on it. Finding more than I thought existed. It will take a while, but I think it's worth it!

That bison theme is a cool idea. If you happen to decide to expand beyond coins, check out the car hood emblems from Kaiser-Frazer in the 1940's-50's:

Also the license plates from Manitoba in the teens:

There are also these (scroll down to see the emblems):

Cannot get more bison related than those.
Be aware they are tough to find and somewhat pricey.
