I have inherited many coins, but identifying this one has me stuck. Does anyone know what this is? I can find nothing on the Web about it.

Forgot to mention; the reverse side as well? I can kind of see what we're looking at here, but I need better details of the markings to fully determine what the coin/medal is.

I have taken pictures of both sides of the medallion, but can't get any improvement. The markings are as follows (obverse) GREGORIVS XIII PONT.MAX.ANN.IIII (and reverse) IN NOM.IESVSVRGE ET AMB. The date on the reverse is 1575. I hope this helps.

Well spotted - thank you for the information (I don't know how you found it). Now I'll have to get the Italian translated!
