This coin's somewhat confounding me. I at first was thinking it was a rather ordinary Festival of Britain crown, but it bears a five shilling {which is equivalent, of course) marking. Would this specimen have been from the proof set, perhaps?

Do you mean the text below the bust of George VI? If so, that is common to that coin.

Fesival of Britain Crown, first British Crown struck in copper nickel, also commemorates 100 years anniversary of Great Exhibition, held in Hyde Park, London.

Coin designers:
Thomas Hugh Paget = 'HP', (obv.)
Benedetto Pistricci = 'BP'. (rev.)

Copper nickel Proof, 2,004,000 struck, no non-proof coins.
Edge incusely inscribed:
"MDCCCLI CIVIUM INDUSRRIA FKLORET CIVITAS MCMLI".
Some rare examples have blundered edge lettering.
