Need some error help with this one. My first thought upon looking at it was split planchet, but the thing weighs 2.87g so not all that far underweight. And looks a lot like a mild acid bath may have done the trick. Then I saw those remnant folded over fin-like things, most prominently on the lower right of the reverse and thought maybe it is a planchet thing.

Anyway, I found it last night and need help from those who know errors/damage better than I. As noted, weight is 2.87g.

1945 Lincoln Wheat cent - error or damage?

Acid dipped for sure. If it was a Split Planchet, then it would show strong weakness and a grainy like rough texture.

Under 0.11 grams after +/- .13 grams low end tolerance taken in account. Acid does not typically eat away in this fashion.

Currently thinking out load, a split planchet before strike seems more evident on the obverse than does the reverse. Would expect to see less detail opposite the bust. , but then thinking, its only 0.11 grams under tolerance specs. Thanks, Doug.

Morning TB ,
On a split before strike the metal striations would not be seen integrated with the design details like it is at Abes forhead on your coin. The striations would only be seen where the details did not strike up. The fields would also be one of the first things that contact the die and strike up , therefore loose the striations of a split planchet.
On a split planchet strike the internal striations will only be evident on one side of the coin. The opposite side from the striations will show weakness of strike from insufficient metal but no striations.
Here is my 1960-D split before strike for an example

Im agreeing with E&V.
Your coin probably had a poor alloy mix to start with and the caustic solution it was in accented the Woodie lines.
