I need some help with this, I just received a Australian Penny album partialy filled from ebay. I was putting some of my pennies in and checking to make sure all the ones in the book were correct. The last 2 holes in this book are blank, and there was a Penny date down. I popped it out and it is a 1916, but there is no I mm. and no spot in the album for a 16 no mm. Whats the deal with that?

G'day, I looked up Renniks:
apparently all of the 1916, 1917, & 1918 pennies were minted at Calcutta.
The "I" ought to be below the scroll.
I recall past discussion about some of the early WW2 Indians not having a mintmark;
but I can't recall anything similar in relation to WW1-era.

You might already be aware of this: the following website is very informative, particularly in relation to Australian pennies -

Missing I variety, possibly a diefill, a collectable piece which can be hard to obtain. Any chance of a pic.

you're right...I really see no suggestion of an "I" there. Wow!

The general consensus is that the missing I coin is a diefill from what I can find out. Below are some pics of a coin I have that is the same as above, and I also can't see any semblance of where the I was supposed to be with a 30x loupe. Cheers.
