I got one of these items recently for a couple of dollars from the usual place:
Egyptian-Oval-Coin-Or-Token
Egyptian Oval Coin
Bronze, 22 mm x 31 mm, 5.76 gm
Obverse: Oval ring with Egyptian hieroglyph figures, man sitting, turtle or frog.
Reverse: Oval ring with two smaller ovals, at top two birds, in center a tree or club

The only information that I have is from another coin forum where someone stated that these were handed out by museums in the 1920's.

The heiroglyphics are "fake" - there is no heiroglyphics character that looks like a frog, or like a man sitting cross-legged with his arm up and holding his chin.

I suspect it was made as a "lucky charm" back at the height of the Egyptology craze, in the late 1800s / early 1900s.
