I bought a small coin collection and found this mixed in the lot. It's a 24 Skilling from 1773 and it's really cool looking. I've searched on ebay and online and only found 4 or 5 from this date but they all were sold overseas and when converting the currency rate, I got sale prices from around $150 on up to almost $600 so I'm not sure of the actual value of it. Anyone have a newer foreign coin catalog that might give a little more information on it and a rough idea of what it's worth? I believe it's from Denmark too if that helps.

The first result I get from putting "1773 24 skilling" into Google is this.

Thanks jgenn......i found that site too and also this one:

https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=l...1523&lot=302

There were very few placed I found with prices and they varied so much that I wasnt sure what it might actually be worth. Lol

Thanks for the compliment on the edge photo's....i just got lucky and they turned out great. The edge was one of the things that stood out and made me like the coin too. Pretty cool for being from 1773!

The NGC site with prices is probably as good as any price guide. I have found that it is often hard to establish firm prices with older coins, outside of the US ones. Actual ebay sale prices are a better indication, but if the market is thin you may not find a sale on ebay.

I also love the edge of that coin. Really unique.
Are you sure it's not from Norway?

There is one recent sale in the CoinArchives database, of an example that is in comparable condition (but better eye appeal) for $300. https://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotv...a77b0e2cce4f

Many posters have commented that NGC is hery helpful for identification, and can show how rare a coin is within a series, but is often less helpful for up-to-date price information on foreign coins. I agree that ebay IS the market for lower value coins, and then look for auction sales, when you can find them (sounds like you already have).

So, nice find! And likely worth upwards of $100. If you want to sell it, and have a presence on ebay, I have sold a few coins to Norwegian collectors (there is a pretty robust market over there). I think you can mail a registered letter abroad for about $16, which would probably be tolerable to a buyer of something like this.

Thanks for all the info everyone. Oops, I did say it was Denmark but chafemasterj is correct, it is really from Norway. I originally thought it was from Denmark and for some reason my mind keeps wanting to say that when I do know its from Norway. Thanks for noticing I had the country wrong in my description.
