Hi CCF! Since I'm new to error coin hunting, I'm curious about a condition I've seen on a few coins. I'm not sure if it's considered an error, but I've seen coins with a groove all the way around the coin, directly inside the rim, that sometimes slightly affects the lettering. I've seen it on a single side of a coin, and just found a 2011-D 1C with both sides like this. Is this something of interest? Thanks!

@LDV, of course you know that we want to see pics of this as we can only speculate otherwise. I will say that in the past, we have seen cents that were encased that have a resulting deep circumferential gouge along the rim, whereas a thin groove a few millimeters in has tended to be more caused from rolling machines. Using the CCF search functionality will get you links to dozens of prior threads showing coins with both of these types of damage.

Well now that the image is there, it is not what I posted. It is called a Ridge Ring from the die wearing out. Not a keeper. It is very common on Zincolns.

OK, images uploaded. You can see what I'm referring to bottom left of the obverse and along the bottom of the reverse, but the ridge goes all the way around on both sides.

Thanks Coop for the info, though I think this is different than finning. I could be wrong, take me to school please!

Well you might check out the youtube videos on my signature line. (Numbers 1-5) And also check a link to learn things a lot quicker with lots of images. CoopHome When you click on that, it will take you to a thread where I started threads on different subjects and also where I add more information of others post as well. So you can click on that or type in that on the search and it will bring that link up. There are enough reading there to help with all kinds of stuff.
