I just read that in January the mint is planning on issuing an Ultra High Relief Gold Eagle. As the mint says: "This coin promises to fulfill Augustus Saint-Gaudens' vision of an ultra high relief coin that could not be realized in 1907 with his legendary Double Eagle liberty design."

Looks a bit odd me thinks, pretty but odd...
Chack it out: http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/ultrahigh/

Just another strategy by the mint to suck more money out of us collectors I suppose... I guess I should start saving now.

The question is how much do we need to save to obtain this coin.

Probably about 25% over spot, when they decide to price them. So, plan on about a grand, and be happy if it they are cheaper. Flippin' criminals.

So I guess I need to hope and pray that the British pound is doing well against the dollar when it goes on sale since I been over in the UK since 1998.

The lettering on the edge doesn't go with the rest of the design... they really should have used the softer font employed in the legends.

And that is one ferociously thick coin... looks like a gold hockey puck!

Still, I want... cannot afford unless gold drops back to Y2K prices, but want.

even though I don't collect the modern Gold Eagles (I decided to get proof Buffalo's instead because of gold content) I will probably get one of these to go with my 1907 wire rim my Grandfather gave me since I cant afford a 1907 Extra High relief lettered edge like this one (pictures from ARC)
Ultra-High-Relief-Gold-Eagle??
but the $1,400,000.00 price tag is a little out of my range

But, oooohhhhhh, that is a beaut!

Does anyone have a towel, I just drooled on my keyboard... That has got to be simply the best looking reverse of a coin that I have ever seen... But 1.4 mil?... I can't, mom told me I couldn't spend that money until I was 35....

I like the old one.
That new one is hideous though.

I kinda like the new one...

The real deal 1907 is definitely the most gorgeous US coin in existance though. End of Story.
