@m113, that mark on the shield is damage resulting from the edge of another coin hitting this one. Also, don't stress about still needing to learn more--virtually all of us here are in that same situation.

Note it is surface damage on the higher device. The stripes that are lower are not affected. It is were a die issue, the lower would be affected and the higher devices would not be affected.

It's a bag mark, since you can see the indentation from the reeded edge of another coin. It's Post Strike Damage ( PSD) unfortunately.
