Can anyone tell me what the extra ray description means in this title? What is an extra ray?

It's actually a heavy die file line next to the rays that looks somewhat like a ray. There are listings for 22-s, 26-s and 35-s but I'm not aware of a 23-s listing.

Here is a link to 22-s VAM-10. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.c...922-S_VAM-10

Thanks dave700x. With that reference I was able to determine that the coin is:

1923-S VAM-1K

1923-S VAM-1K Double Clash Spike Eagle's Shoulder

Now that I can see it I will get some photos up as soon as I can.
Rest in Peace

Well, the clash lines off the eagle's shoulder do look like rays. Looking forward to your pictures..

The spike is off of (above) the right shoulder of the eagle on the reverse.

Just an FYI: that Peace dollar has been improperly cleaned (harshly cleaned IMO).

They are all struck very weak. From the PCGS coin facts:

Quote:

Varieties include the 1934-D Double Die Obverse, 1934-D Large and Small Mintmark, and 1935-S with either three or four rays below ONE on the reverse.

I don't see it on this one.

I don't think it has been cleaned, but certainly a bunch of bag marks.
