Doubling is seen in the date, nose, and the ERTY. I don't think it's MD because of how the "s" is squished. It looks as though it was struck twice. Thanks for the help!

It is Machine Doubling very common from 1968-1972 cents. MD reduced the sizes of the mint mark and date. That is exactly what I see on your coin, reduction on the devices.

I thought MD was the metal being pushed to the closest rim..

Die Deterioration is movement towards the rim. Machine Doubling is damage to the coin after the strike by die movement. Very common. A doubled die shows enlarged devices with a spread.

Machine Doubling is often confused as a Doubled Die when it's not.

Also note that the doubling on the date and mintmark is to the same degree and in the same direction. The mintmark was punched into the die after the hubbing of the die was completed. So the mintmark and the date would not show the same doubling if it was a true doubled die.
