Saw this at a local coin shops reduced price coins bin marked for $3.00 and decided to take a gamble if it was real or not. Although it's in rough condition with rim damage and looks like it may of been dateless or partial dated and some bumhole decided to acid date it as it has that porous look to it, or it spent time outside and was dug up at one time. What do you all think? Legit or not? Sorry about the sideways pictures they appeared fine in my gallery. Not sure what's up with that.

it has been soaked in vinegar. If you rub it, you might lose raised details on surface.

I thought so too. Not sure why someone would decide to acid date it as the coin appears to have originally been a partial date as I've acid dated junk dateless Buffalo nickels before but none of their dates came out that sharp. So the guy who did that probably was trying to scam someone over pawned off as a higher grade but if it's a real 26-S $3.00 is a good buy for me. Filled the hardest hole in my album if it's legit.
Rest in Peace

When I saw it I immediately thought Nic-a-date.
Same result as vinegar -- but faster.

Crop the photos so that they are at least one pixel wider than they are tall. Seems like everything wants to be "landscape" on the forum and not "portrait" as yours photos are taken.

You do that a lot lately . All you have to do is rotate your eyes 45% .

Here's a better image of both sides in one photo. Found an app that puts them together like my older pictures but without annoying pop up ads. I will be sure to double check the preview incase the photos decide to appear sideways again. I hate it when that happens and thanks jbuck for telling me why that happens. It was quite annoying.
