Doubt this is one. But its a dull red and when I move it around. It shines silver/grey. I have a bag of about 2000 1970's that I been saving up to go through and this is the only one that is red so far. There any other way to find out if this could be aluminum? Would the weight be different than a copper cent? Image don't do it justice.

Better image of what it looks like without the yellow hue from the lighting.

It's just a normal cent with severe Environmental Damage.

Almost looks like rust on its surface. Is it possible to plate copper with a ferrous metal? Plating copper cents was a common classroom science experiment back in the 50s through the 70s. I know they've used Silver, Gold, Nickle, Brass, Mercury and others. Not sure if even possible with a ferrous metal. Chemistry was not my strong suit.

@JOHN1 I know, would be crazy.
It's not aluminum though. If it is to weigh 2.65 grams. This weighs 3.05 grams. Bummer. Looks cool in person though. First blood red cent I came across. This is still special.. right? LOL!

Why would someone use ICG to slab such a rarity? John1

Probably didn't want it confiscated. (not my coin, just an image I found on the net) I saved the image for the weight. It has helped a lot of new ones to realize the weight is a factor, not the color.

Quote: Why would someone use ICG to slab such a rarity? Doesn't matter, it was later crossed to PCGS who upgraded it to MS-62 or 63.(even though it clearly shows wear.)

What is the real legality on this coin? If you are not allowed to own it,why are TPG's slabbing them? John1
