I hope he checked all those halves and dollars for silver! He may have paid a lot more than he realized for that truck

I was thinking the same thing, Photoeric!

I wonder if the car dealer is a collector. Maybe he accepted the transaction after he spotted a lot of silver in those coffee cans!

Where is the bank it was turned into? It would be worth the trip for someone to try and get what they can from the collection. If he was a penny-pincher then there had to be a fair amount of older coins in that set.
Rest in Peace

I suspect it was accumulated since 1981 (when he bought his last truck), so the likelihood of silver is between slim and none. Doubtful there were many cents or nickels if a kaughy can held $500. Maybe some Ikes.

Even in 1981 there were a lot of decent coins in circulation. And then too remember the sort of recession in the late 80's and many people dumped old cans, boxes, jars of coins into circulation. Sure would be interesting to find out if there were anything of value in that mess.

That one reminded me of a story some years back about an old lady that traded in her very, very low milage 1955 Ford for a new one. Not sure but think it was in 1995. They gave her $500 for her car and it was like new. Less than a few thousand miles. Always wondered how she felt if she saw that article in the newspaper.
