Okay so this piece is a little different in that it was already graded by the Numismatic Evaluation Service, officially bearing an AU-50. Despite this, I find myself disagreeing as the lack of mint luster would normally deprecate this to around an EF-40. I've had this one in my possession for around 10 years now and it wasn't until recently I pondered on this issue, and in addition, there's no info on NES anywhere online, making them less reliable to me than say NGC. Overall it's still a nice coin, but I can't help but find myself in disbelief with the originally designated grade. YGP

Hmm ,I tend to agree with you about the grade . NES must be a basement slabber . Also the color of this coin is off to me .

I have no problem with EF. But I'm also thinking corrosion, detailed and cleaned.

Hey everyone, thank you for all the insightful replies and info! I thought I would do a quick follow up comparing the piece to a non-cleaned 1919-S for a brief comparison. The lighting in the original wasn't too great, so this should be a touch more accurate in depicting the color, though yes it's still lighter than the second piece and was likely cleaned a long while ago.

Much better job on the pictures! I'll bump my grade to AU-something. The coin has not been cleaned.
