The mark on the '6' is on all small dates. The small over large dates enlarges the zero on the date:

Hey oldtimer. How I tell the difference is in the Zero.
Large date the Zero is a perfect circle.
Small date the Zero is pinched ever so slightly at the sides making it sort of egg shaped.

Coop could you elaborate on the comment that all 1960-D Small Date LMC have the mark on the 6. Do you mean the exact mark shown in your photo, or just some mark at the 6.
Here are some photos of my 1960-D Small Date LMC and it has a die chip at the 6 but not like in the photo you posted.
I must not be understanding what you are saying.

please excuse the bump, but I really would like Coop to explain the mark at the 6, in the date.

The one I posted is a Die Chip.

Actually master die engraving.
1960-D-Lincoln-Cent-May-Be-Sm/Lg?
This was used part of that year with all the dies showing that mark on the '6'. A quick PUP (Pick-Up-Point) All the small dates have this. Later that year they replaced the small dates with the large dates.

I read somewhere, that they felt the rush to add the mint marks on this year to get back into production on these cents was probably the reason for so many RPMs this year.
