a penny caught my eye because of the picture and it turns out to be 2009 D I am a BEGINNER at this coin collecting/interest I have. What do I do now?

I agree with just carl. There are 4 coins in the 2009 Lincoln series and finding them in circulation will be more challenging than you think. Are you up to the challenge? If yes, then you my friend are a coin collector!

So 2009 was a special commemorative year for Abe's legacy as well as the Lincoln Cent (It was the bicentennial of his birth and the centennial of the cent's introduction). Thus to celebrate, the Mint released four unique reverse designs throughout the year depicting Abe at various stages of his life. You'll wanna look out for-

1. Birth and Early Childhood in Kentucky

2009-D-Penny-Caught-My-Eye

2. Formative Years in Indiana

2009-D-Penny-Caught-My-Eye

3. Professional Life in Illinois

2009-D-Penny-Caught-My-Eye

4. Presidency in DC

2009-D-Penny-Caught-My-Eye

In all there's 8 varieties with four being from the Philadelphia mint and four from the Denver mint. Good luck!
