I bought a few of the 1976 American revolutionary bicentennial metals. I decided to see if it was plated. It seems to me to be real. If you would look and give me your opinion.

Ok yikes, my opinion is that you have shown pretty definitely that the inside of the coin is the same color as the outside of the coin. That pretty much eliminates the possibility of it being plated. However, your test mark completely removes all semblance of collectability. I get it that these are bought and sold pretty much at melt, but the coin collector in me cringed a little bit at your pics. Might I recommend that you consider a non-destructive means for determining whether your remaining pieces are real gold or plated fakes?

My opinion is that what you have is a piece of gold bullion.
Any numismatic value it had is now gone.
Hope you saved the piece you cut out.

I darn well hope so, because if they aren't, it's going to be about the stupidest thing I've ever seen done to a coin (or medal).

That said... shh... I think it was made of chocolate. Photo #2 looks suspiciously like bent foil.

Why wasn't it checked for weight first, before being mutilated?
