I started collecting coins about a month and a half ago. I've been hoarding gold and silver for about 5 years. So I'm super curious if this is just a chemical process, or is this an error? Here is the coin in question, I have some more coins I'm curious on that I've found in a month and a half that I'll be posting. Thanks guys! Update. So I've done the free image optimizer and I'm getting the green check after clicking save all but it's not saving on my device. Not sure how to combat this to upload these images..... another update. I downloaded a photo compressor and got them down to size, uploaded them and it said successfully uploaded but not seeing them on here. I have to give up for now. Becoming frustrated, wow I finally did it. Also I noticed e divits on the bottom left of Lincoln. The-Penny-That-Got-Me-Started.-Super-Weird.-Super-Rare?

I don't know if you meant to post an image, but nothing's coming up. Perhaps you can reference this when uploading?

Those divots are supposed to be there. They are the designer's initials VDB

Thanks for the welcomes and reply guys. I've been focused on 83 and previous fuzzy317, sorry for the newb question as far as the 3 divits. Can you comment on the color of the penny? Is this just a chemical prices? Defective planchet?

Looks like a grossly stained coin to me, not a clean but a chemical dip for sure, as well as post mint damage. Also as Fuzzy mentioned, the divots are the designer's initials, 'VDB' (Victor D Brenner), which have been at Lincoln's bust since 1918 and can easily be seen on modern cents.

Here are 2 more the might be defective planchlets. What do you guys think? If they are, should I have them cleaned or leave them as is? The mint marks are messed up and the e in e pluribus Unum on one looks like a double die? Thanks for your patience in this time of learning for me. I'm a quick learner so I don't be a bother for to long :p

Like Jimmy said it's zinc rot, I'd like to say it's not worth a cent but it is.

Sell, I'm still on the hunt so it's not over yet. I just started, although I would like to have already found something, I understand that that's not how it is. I'm going to keep searching my change. And keep searching these forums to gain knowledge in the process. Thanks everybody for the replys, and thanks for taking the time! Looking forward to being apart of the community.

Just stained from circulation, worth 1 cent. The other coins have zinc rot and can be spent.
