This is the original envelope in which it came -

Alaska was granted statehood on January 3, 1959. Hawaii wasn't admitted until August 21. Thus, from July 4, 1959 up to July 4, 1960, the U.S. had a 49 star flag. I actually have a vintage example of this one year flag, but on the whole they're not easy to come by.

I have one but not the paper envelope. I had mine given to me in 1984 when a friend came back from Alaska fishing for Halibut and Salmon. Still looks like new and that was a long time ago already.

Mind if I copy your envelope images for my personal info?

That they were actually gold plated would contribute a great deal to their preservation.

Not in the least. I post here mainly for general education purposes and assert no copyright protection.

I actually picked up three of these yesterday in their envelopes - the other two were (and remain) still sealed, while the one pictured here had been already opened.
