I've managed to avoid the listings where Paypal isn't accepted, but recently bought a TV remote because the deal was too good to pass up. Seller only accepted a credit card. This seems to work out for ebay and seller. No paypal fees for seller, and ebay gets to operate independently of Paypal, which they announced some months back. Oh, btw, the purchase went smooth.

I think I saw with the ebay processing fees it's cheaper for the seller to use their system for things that are under like 30 dollars, but the more expensive the item is the more the seller is going to be paying in fees compared to PayPal. Obviously that wouldn't apply if they had their own credit card processing set up

I've mostly avoided it, until the other night that is. Had to purchase with a Debit card, and my bank flagged the purchase and froze the card. No big deal, just a quick call to the bank(the next morning because it was 8pm), they said it was flagged because it was out of California or whatever. Used a credit card that night and it worked fine however.

If the number gets stolen or fraud it's MUCH easier to get it overturned with a credit card whereas a debit card you can often be out the money

If seller uses a credit card for payment, I would think there would still be a fee. Wouldn't the advantage of bypassing PayPal be small at best in most cases?

If you're a big seller, you can get credit card processing for about 2% less than PayPal transaction fees, which really adds up over time. But that's not practical or convenient for small volume sellers.

I also think that ebay must give sellers some incentive to NOT use paypal. Isn't ebay is trying to separate from them?

There's no incentive not to use PayPal, if anything there's a disincentive unfortunately. ebay and PayPal separated as companies quite some time ago. ebay is attempting to do their own payment system but with what the fees and everything else it's not very attractive for sellers and even less so for them to dump PayPal for it
