the reverse is well struck, still very very sharp. The obverse is more used, had evidence of circulation...

If Canada had a VF25 grade, I would say that but seeing they don't, I will go up to VF30. Also that is a nice Hoof Through 6 Variety.

It looks like it had a nice dark Patina on it, it was dipped, whoever dipped it didn't recognize that some coins are undippable.
If it has a dark thick Patina it will make it look worse. So it is a problem coin, that's my opinion.

It looks like a scan, I'm saying it's a EF-40, nice one regardless.

As has been noted already, the reverse is a much better strike than is usually found on a VF. Without the coin in hand it's difficult to make that final assessment but I'm leaning to EF-40.
