My guesses:

Thin planchet from near the end of a roll of strip (would be lightweight).

Dies have not been properly adjusted at beginning of a run.

Grease on dies (least likely).

If the weight is normal (i.e., around 2.68 grams), then it's most likely a tilted die error (vertical misalignment). The weakness at the same pole on both sides, combined with the weakness of the design rim, is consistent with that interpretation.

The excessive space between many of the edge devices and the rim on both the reverse and obverse would make me think it was boardstruck (out-of-collar). Do the rims look fully formed? Is it the same thickness and surface area as other dimes?

My first question is how accurate is the color in the picture. Is the coin the same color as a normal dime?

Thanks,

I'm new to coin collecting. The rims are not looking fully formed from my end ( looking at the side near the top of the back of Roosevelt's head ). I compared it to seven other dimes very much like this one (1978or3?, 1976 d, 1969 d, 2006 d, 1965, 1972 d ) , and it appears to be just slightly flatter than the others. I don't have a weight so I cannot say how much it weighs. THis picture is from my scanner, 2400 resolution in color. I can't make any adjustments other than to make the scan black and white or grayscale so I assume this color is correct as far as a scan goes. I's a little more shiny from my end and it's in a better condition than a couple of 2000+ dimes.
