Fosterland = Fatherland "homeland" in Swedish Nederlands = The Netherlands (not Holland; that's a province of NDL).

Ah...do you have a Krause catalog? I'm happy to look them up, but I'd need pics or other info I imagine the Fosterland coin has a shield with 3 crowns? That would clinch the Sweden ID.

Quote: then use your valuable opinion. do they grade coins the same way there as we do? My opinion is worth what I charge Europeans tend to be harder graders than US coins--there has been a real slide in our standards. Australia and Canada generally grade tougher than the US too.

canada can be tough but weirdly I dont find that they grade canadian coins as intently as the US coins here.

The motto was that of Gustaf V - "Med folket för fosterlandet" means "With the people for the Fatherland". Previous and later kings of Sweden had/have different mottos. ( Nederlands is Dutch for "Dutch" while the country would be "Nederland" ... errm, how did the Netherlands get in here anyway? ) Christian

NIce coins. I always really loved the designs on those older 1 cent coins. It is kind of surprising that they don't more attantion now-a-days.

Yes, nice design - but many millions of them were made and issued between 1913 and 1941, and they are still very common (not incirculation any more, but not difficult to find for collectors). So except for pieces in high grades and a few "rare" years, they are not expensive ...
