Good Day all,

I came across a cigar-box in my basement containing over 500 of the 1936 penny. I have verified the KG between the crown and research I have done online. Also, in the photo attached I have the original bag these coins were found in... Can anyone help me as to the value of these coins and why there may have been such a massive amount in the bag. My family had told me they were found in my great grandfathers basement. I've added the photos of coins, the bag, and close up of coins as well.

Any insight/value estimations are welcome and appreciated

Looks like it was stored in a Bank(stating the obvious) at one time, perhaps your Great Grandfather or a relation/friend was in NG during the War.
Japs stripped the Banks in PNG and the Islands at every opportunity, similar to a modern Day ISIS.

They don't seem to be worth much but Collectors may pay a premium if you include the Bag.

Looks like hoard, and where none of them has seen any circulation.
As such, these New Guinea Pennies would have a value of around
U.S $5 EACH.

I would sell them through a public auction, where a coin dealer would snap them up.

The 1936 New Guinea Penny is a one year type.
The Royal Cypher ERI stands for Edward Rex Imperator.
(Edward 8th- he gave up his kingdom to marry an American woman)

Note PNG coins, unless silver are near worthless! That been said these are definitely not worthless due in part to this particular date, design and condition of the coins (as Sel has put it is a 1 year type with Edwards cypher on it) as there aren't many coins that one can get for Edwards rule due to his abdication , however due to the fact there in a bulk I'm less sure what the value is but quite sure the higher quality ones do achieve $5 or more at retail.
