Not a belated April Fools...

https://www.usmint.gov/news/inside-...-circulation

Quote:
In total, the West Point Mint will strike 10 million quarters that will be mixed into bulk bags of quarters at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints. In early April, the first of the W mint mark quarters will be shipped and distributed to banks and financial institutions by the Federal Reserve. The coins will likely begin to appear in circulation within four to six weeks and will be available throughout 2019.

That should make 30 different quarters for 2019 including the proofs. If you consider the mint set quarters different from the business strikes, then 40 assuming the mint set only contains the -P and -D quarters.

At least 30 types this year:

A Philadelphia (P) and a Denver (D) uncirculated coin for all five parks (available via the annual mint set) = 10 coins total
A San Francisco (S) uncirculated coin for all five parks (available only in rolls and bags) = 5 coins total
A San Francisco (S) clad proof coin for all five parks (available via the annual regular proof set) = 5 coins total
A San Francisco (S) silver proof coin for all five parks (available via the annual silver proof set) = 5 coins total
And a West Point (W) uncirculated coin for all five parks (available in circulation) = 5 coins total

Well folks, there's the answer to what the circulating "rarity" will be. At two million per design they won't be true rarities, but they would be something to search for, and if they trickle the production out through the production of each design it will give the average person a chance to find them and not have big dealers immediately grab up large quantities. If no Ballistic Bag has more than a small quantity of them no dealer is going to buy and process a dozen bags just to get a large quantity of them.

It looks like you can't buy them from the U.S. Mint in rolls. Coin roll hunting for quarters is about to get popular for the time being.

The question in my mind is: Since they are starting to issue these coins in later April, will Massachusetts varieties be made/released in the same quantities as the other four ATB Quarters?
I noticed the quarters shown being made in the video were Guam quarters.

Fascinating...I'll be browsing the "Bay" for these. I think it's just a gimmick to spark some life back into ATB series. On a site note, are they still doing the "S" business strike quarters?

Yes, they're still doing the -S business strike quarters. They absolutely should be included in the mint sets.

Now that I've had a few minutes to think about it, I don't think I'll EVER find any "W" quarters. I know I've never ever seen any uncirculated "S" quarters (I end up buying all of them at year's end from a dealer), and finding "P" and "D" quarters is hard enough. I still haven't found FIVE of the 2018 circulated quarters 'in the wild'; as well as some quarters as far back as 2014. If I do find one "W" somehow I'll consider myself lucky.

I was wondering how long it would be before the mint did something like this.

What would really stir things up would be to release some true rarities - coins with mintages under 1,000, or even in the single or double digits. Good for our hobby, great for the economy, because people will find them, sell them on ebay, and most would feed that money back into the economy. Trickle-down economics that actually works!

They're not released in to general circulation by the mint like these -W quarters will be. Any -S quarter found in circulation would have to have been purchased from the mint at a premium.

Will there be full rolls of W quarters when they are first shipped to the banks or do they somehow mix in the quarters with new rolls of D and P quarters? Just wondering how this mix works, is it a mix of rolls, or are the internal of the D and P rolls mixed?
