Hi folks,
Complete newbie here.
I traded some gold bars and coins for some other gold bars and coins.
Yes, my metals dealer loves seeing me.

Part of my trading purchase is a 1959 Restrike 20 Pesos coin.
In the larger trade, this coin was purchased by me at what turned out to be the same price I sold to the shop my old 2010 Gold 1/2 oz. BU Eagle.
I think I got the better of the trade. I think.

I am unsure if this new coin is a candidate for grading.
I may need a simple, cost effective way for me to get this new addition graded.(Suggestions would be appreciated.)
Can you grade, but not slab a coin?

What is your opinion of the coin? I compared it to many, many and only saw a few better- I think.
At least it's not one of the ugly matte finish coins, it does wagon-wheels.
I've seen a video that places the minting of wagon-wheels finish in the 1960's.
I've found a noticeable impurity blemish at the very top of the obverse. There's not many 20 Pesos without some blemish to be found.

This coin was photographed with a brand new camera phone, should I try to get it better with an SLR digital camera and lighting ring?
I included a photo of the Sun Stone detail, it should carry the ability to magnify it higher. I can't believe how hard it is to photograph, a bit of it is out of focus- all in the size of a dime.
The complete area of the Sun Stone is very crisp, sharp- I'd say it's a really good strike(s).

I'll appreciate you helping me figure what to do in moving forward.
To me it looks pretty enough to keep. But if it's worth significantly more than just a bullion coin, that might change.

Thanks,
Jack

It seems like an excellent quality coin to me. You have already mentioned the blemish,

But I do not understand your question:

in the CCF, it seems to me that people use grading and slabbing somewhat loosely to mean the same things: sending it to a TPG to be put in a protective slab and assigned a grade. I would not see the point of doing only one of these things.

What do you want done to your coin? Anyone can assign what they think the grade is. It may or may not be the same as what a TPG thinks. You can get a hard plastic capsule to protect it.

Personally I would only consider this to be a bullion value coin.

That's a lovely coin. But I think if you check past auction results you'll find that the restrike is pretty common in higher grades and doesn't draw a big premium over melt even at MS66 or 67. I'm not expert enough to tell you "not worth grading" but it's a close shave at best. Personally I'd keep it and enjoy it.

Currently selling slightly above melt. About the same price as a raw BU pre 1933 US Eagle, which has the same gold content. Hefty little thing, and attractive.
