I was just looking through some of the RPM posts and then a question hit me. What's the most practical way to cherrypick RPM's? I mean, if I went to a coin show it would be quite rude to have a cherrypicking guide open, and would make the dealer feel uncomfortable.

By the way, I am only talking about Lincoln Cents.

How do you guys discover RPM's that are less obvious to the eye when looking through coins, and you don't have time to search up the RPM's on Wexler's or Variety Vista? I mean, you guys don't memorize every RPM do you? I for one am terrible at memorizing things. Is there a specific way you can point out a RPM without searching out the specific RPM?

Thank you so much for the help!

If they have tubed rolls at a coin show, you could buy one roll of them to see if the seller is searching them for RPMs. If they have BU OBW rolls, consider buying them if they appear to be unopened. If slightly loose, pass. They may have been searched and the searched non varieties had been added back to the roll. If you see rolls of RPMs on ebay, most of the time they are salted with a few known RPMs, the rest unlisted minor RPMs. If they are confirmed rolls of all the same know RPMs. Those would be a nice find. But if you note the vendor is selling RPMs or doubled dies, the tubed stuff may have already been searched. Thus you know what the tubed examples have already been searched. But if they are selling just BU tubes and they don't note anything as a RPM/doubled die, then you might by a few rolls. Not all coin dealers are variety collectors. They just don't have time to look at each roll. After you check all tables for roll coins, then go back later to check for the 2X2's in their storage books. If you see they are selling varieties there, then more on to another table. If no mention that you can see? Look them over closely. There might be gems there.

As far as RPMs, that is another subject. If you need information about them, let me know.
