I would have to check but I believe in Cricket the Bowler can bounce the ball off the ground on its way to the batter. So the bowler has bounced the ball, the batter has hit it and the fielder has caught it for the out.

In cricket it is normal practice to bounce the ball before it gets to the batsman. Usually the closer to the batsman the better, that way it is harder to hit. Sometimes the ball will travel to the batsman without bouncing and this is called a "full toss" and is usually a batsman's delight. Sometimes the bowler will bowl the ball short deliberately and it will bounce to head height to intimidate the batsman. This is called a "bouncer".

I just Googled "cricket in top hats" and it seems they did play like that in the old days.

Steve :)
