I've never had an active interest in bank notes until recently and I admit my knowledge about them is very weak. My daughter shares my interest in coins, artifacts and the history behind them. She purchased this Confederate note to add to my display as a gift.
She thought it flowed well with what we historically posses.

The bill was purchased from APMEX and appears to be in outstanding condition. The cut is not perfect but that's common enough for this type of note. The bill or promissory note since it's a promise to pay two years after the wars conclusion is out of Virginia and is dated February 14th 1864 and the figure seen in the lower right corner is that of Robert Hunter.

Robert Hunter served as the Confederate Secretary of State from 1861 - 1862. He then went on to be a Confederate Senator from 1862 until the wars end. Interesting enough he continued in service to the US government serving as a custom collector under Grover Cleveland until his death in 1884.

Everything seems to check out and I love the history and design. So my question is does this check all the boxes as being authentic? How reputable is APMEX? I've never purchased from them.

Thanks in advance.

APMEX is a highly reputable, top tier coin company. Likewise, I see nothing wrong with your Confederate $10 and it looks authentic to me. Very nice addition to your collection!

Interesting note, R.M.T. Hunter can be seen in several scenes throughout the Lincoln movie (2012).

I also believe the CSA $10 (T-68) to be genuine.

I was fortunate enough to find an R.M.T. Hunter autograph to go with my note.
