I'm not an expert, but here's my Two Cents. You should find a place that buys it right about spot. I suggest a bullion or coin dealer. Try to avoid going to a pawn shop as they don't give the best prices.

I was planning on going to a coin dealer in the Houston area. Just wanted to get an idea what I should expect and what would be considered getting ripped off.

My LCS in Texas pays $9:$1 for junk; $14:$1 for cull dollars. If you are discussing rounds, bars, or sovereign rounds, that is a different discussion

You can call. They would likely tell you their current buy prices. I called a couple of coin shops about gold recently and for US bullion, they were at 3-5% below spot, for foreign bullion, a little less.

Your best bet is to go to a coin show and take offers from dealers. One of them will make the best offer.

I will not be able to do a coin show. I am limited for time. I am selling for my parents and I will only be in the area for 3 days. The item is a gold 1oz. Krugerrand 1984

Dunno the Houston market. Maybe you'll get lucky and someone from there will post here. Also Google the area and see what the reviews are at the local coin shops.
IF you are in a hurry to sell something, you open yourself to fraud by the unscrupulous and raise suspicion among those with scruples. It's a lot easier to sell a valuable if you aren't in such a hurry.

It is really not that much about being in a hurry I guess I miss quoted. But about I'm limited in time, fact is, I'll only be there three days. That's why I'm trying to get as much information as I can before I go.
