I am a newbie to this arena and I have been looking at slowly building a collection of silver. I have looked back through previous discussions, but most are becoming dated. I am not really interested in slabs, Morgans, etc. and while I love the looks of a brilliant ASE, I am more interested in silver value than looks. I have looked at the numerous online sellers of bullion, APMEX, JMBullion, SDBullion, Provident, etc.) I understand their pricing on new ASE's or rounds. Today spot price is $15.20. So, with that said, what is a decent price to purchase older ASE's at? If I run across a brilliant/uncirculated 2011 ASE, what is it's value. If I totally disregard looks and come across one that is "ugly", what kind of offer should be made? I guess I am hoping that through CC members experience I can find some guidance. I have also ordered a Mercanti book. Thanks in advance.

This topic is probably more suited for the bullion threads, but It might be ok here too since you are asking about ASE's. Others will have opinions too, but me personally would say that you should see almost any year ASE currently from $16.50 - $19.00. There are a couple of outliers to this price, but ASE's are silver bullion usually with a small premium over spot. My LCS sells just about any year they get for these prices.

I have a little of everything, but feel like pre-1964 dimes/quarters/halves can be had for closest to melt if going for silver. Just my opinion.
JM has a one-time per address promotion where you can buy 10 oz at spot price.

Consider a local coin store if at any time your plan is to spend under $100.00. once freight factors in the price per ounce jumps dramatically.

Don't forget that 1964 dimes, quarters and halves are also silver.

One can use compare silver prices dot com, $2.29 over spot on ASE's would be a good bet. My LCS charges a flat $5 over.
