Depicted is the "Train of Tomorrow" as displayed at the "Century of Progress" World's Fair held in Chicago.

I don't see this listed in my 1963 edition of So-Called Dollars. It's just under 32 mm in diameter.

I just Googled the history of the Union Pacific 1934 diesel electric locomotive and carriage set.
Very historical and fascinating! The mid 1930's saw the introduction of diesel electric traction onto the American railroad system.

I know absolutely nothing about this medal, but I suspect that although many medals may have been made, few may have survived, and they could be quite rare now. It could also be quite historical in it's own right.

Being a strong train fan myself, it holds extra interest for me. My brother had an HO scale brass model of the Big Boy 2884 Mallet steam locomotive - a spectacular looking train model. I inherited about 150 books on the history of railways from him.

I had mentioned that I hadn't seen this medal cataloged in So-Called Dollars and I should add that there's actually a good reason for that - I note that one of the authors' criteria for inclusion was that medals be at least 33 mm in diameter and this comes in at less than that threshold.

Here's an excellent webpage on the history of the train itself:
