Picked this up the other day on ebay for next to nothing.

6.98g
21mm diameter (ish)
2.5mm thick
Bronze?

I'm seeing similarities to some Persian coin pictures. Date ranges vary from 1300AD to nearly 1800.

Any help appreciated.

Not an area I could get into, but calligraphy reminds me of late Mughal India, possibly Shah Alam around the turn of the 19th century?

Cheers Finn. Yeah, the script does look Persian/Farsi/Arabic to my untrained eye.. Persian was they official language of the Mughal empire, so I'm currently trawling through lots of pics on numista.. i'll let you know when my eyes start bleeding .

I might have to give up on getting a definitive answer for the moment but I'll share what I've learned so far if anyone has a similar looking piece.

It's almost certainly Mughal as Finn suggested.

It's probably a copper dam (sometimes spelled "daam").

I was trying to get some kind of grasp of the text on it and learned a few of the Persian words commonly used on coins from that area and time (like ruler, cosmos, coin), but couldn't get any further than that. Here's some places to start if anyone's interested.

Baroda, Paisa, KM-Y#7.7 although it's more similar to the picture of the ½ Paisa (3.4g) KM-Y#6
