This isn't going to be particularly helpful, I'm just thinking out loud (disclaimer)

Guessing:

Gallic or Celtic

Hammered

The top pic makes me think bronze, but what looks like oxidation on the bottom pic makes me think iron. Red being the normal rust colour; green being an unstable product of corrosion where there's not much oxygen.

I'm seeing a cat on the top pic which would be unusual for Celtic coins. No end of horses and occasionally dogs, but not so hot on cats.

The lettering on the bottom pic.. Top line: I'm struggling. Middle line: B/H U S ? ? ?. Bottom line: S A/D M?... not much help there. What's anyone else seeing?

There's a 6-pointed star like a dandelion seed between the 2nd and 3rd lines of text. Not sure which culture that symbols is common to but it seems familiar.

I've had a good google using the above guesses as a starting point but no joy really... like I said, not much help.

Thanks Andy, I knew that I'd seen something similar before, but it's great to be able to catch up with the full story.
