I picked up this little AE-16 from Macedonia in the name of Alexander the Great. It weighs 6.7 grams.

I don't know much about these issues. I spent a bit of time on VCoins trying to ID it, but I'm not sure if this is a lifetime issue of Alexander III or a Macedonian Kingdom coin struck in his name.

Any help would be appreciated.

If my memory serves me right coins with just his name are lifetime, while those with Of King Alexander are later.

It's my day off, so I took the time to scroll through all the Alexander III listings on Wildwinds.

It looks like Price 266 is the match for my coin, with club above ALEXANDROY and quiver and bow below. Price 266 has no field markings, just like my coin and is an AE-16.

Hi Paul...You have the coin in hand and, I hasten to add I know zero about these coins, but is there a weakly struck symbol above the club?...I'm only asking because price 266 shows a - I assume - knot on the quiver strap at the base of the coin, but then maybe its just off flan on your coin?

Palouche,

Under 10x magnification there is a piece of metal above the club, but I can't see anything other than that small mark.

It could be that there is a mark under the quiver and bow that would have been struck off the flange, but the flange doesn't look to be a small one.

Ok thanks Paul...As I said before a nice looking coin. I still haven't succumbed to Greek coins yet, not one in my collection so far, but I do like the bronzes and this one really appeals...Paul
